1988’s ‘Only Life’ is the third album by New Jersey’s The Feelies. This album explains The Feelies reputation as one of the best American bands that never reached the stardom they deserved. They were hugely influenced by the Velvet Underground and Lou Reed and were an important influence on the development of the American indie rock such as R.E.M. and Yo La Tengo. The album opens with "It's Only Life", a perfect opener that sets the table for an incredible run of top-notch tracks. The twin-guitar attack of songwriters and founders Glenn Mercer and Bill Million is the core of the group’s infectious sound throughout the album. ‘Only Life’ closes out with the Lou Reed/Velvet Underground cover "What Goes On".
